About Us
Our pets ARE our family! We totally get the anguish of losing a pet on top of experiencing a disaster! We love our fellow rescuers who tirelessly and selflessly claw their way to saving pets caught in the mire of a natural disaster. We especially love search and rescue dogs that find and save people and pets lives.
We are tech nerds, pet parents and pet aficionados and globe trekkers. We are happy to welcome volunteers when needed. We are ready to help you in our communities!
Most importantly, we are hopeful that through the use of open source technologies, we can provide a platform for pet friendly and advocate minded people through out the world to ease the stress of people who have lost their pets during a disaster.
We welcome creating partnerships with rescuers, communities of lost and found pets, vet clinics, pet owners, pet finders to centralize and share the information.
Submit information about a pet you’ve lost or a pet you’ve found so that the pet can be reconnected with their family.
We work with partner organizations to provide information to people across the globe about their displaced pets during a time of stress and uncertainty. It is our hope to make their search easier and centralized.

The beginning of Disaster Pet Locator
Disaster Pet Locator was founded right after the Mexico City earthquake in September 2017.
Founder, Julia Moreno Ruiz went through and survived the Mexico City earthquake in 2017. She began to organize and help with neighborhood assistance efforts as all of Mexico City mobilized to bring relief, resources and supplies to communities.
Julia developed Disaster Pet Locator (DPL) website and database to assist families and rescuers reunite lost and found pets. Julia invited collaborators to help envision and shape the future of Disaster Pet Locator since that point.
DPL assisted with efforts in California, where Julia resided for some time. She returned to Canada and set down roots in British Columbia, where DPL is located today.
DPL, now based in Canada, is a true international effort, ready to help wherever there are wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, hurricanes, and other disasters.
