Refugio Franciscano Pt 1

cats disaster dogs rescuers

Today was a day that came full circle for me and Disaster Pet Locator.

I ended up going to a local dog and cat rescue shelter in Mexico City. I went to donate items and to make a connection for Disaster Pet Locator, an organization which came about in an effort to connect displaced pet families.

Today, at Refugio Franciscano, I met one of the heroes who took in pets from families who lost their lives or lost their homes during the Mexico City in 2017. They still care for 30 dogs and cats rescued from that disaster and even coordinate pet family visits with families who were left destitute from the earthquake and turned to the Refugio for the care of their pets.

My words can’t express the gratitude I feel for what the Director, Gina and her crew accomplishes on a daily basis in providing the displaced pets of Mexico City a comfortable, accepting and loving home. This refuge, started 40 years ago, was a pioneer in no-kill shelters in all of Mexico.

Disaster Pet Locator and Refugio Franciscano will be working together as partners on future projects. Stay tuned.
